1X1=1 (To Be I) is the debut extended play by S Korean boy group Wanna One, a project group created through the 2017 Mnet survival show, Produce 101 Flavour two, composed of eleven trainees from different amusement companies that will promote for 18 months under YMC Entertainment. The anthology was released digitally and physically on August 7, 2017, by YMC Entertainment, Stone Music Entertainment and CJ E&M Music. A Japanese version of the album was released on September 27, 2017, through Pony Canyon.[1] The album was re-released under the title 1-1=0 (Aught Without You) on November thirteen, 2017.
Background and release [edit]
On June 16, 2017, the finalists in survival evidence Produce 101 Flavor 2 were revealed and the group immediately started preparations for their debut, starting with recording their ain version of the song "Information technology's Me (Pick Me)", "Ever" (which was first released every bit final vocal for Height 20 finalists), and "Never".[2] In add-on, there are also iv new songs to the album. Among these new songs, "Energetic" a song produced by Pentagon's Hui, which also composed "Never"; and "Burn It Up" were considered for the title track which would be decided by public votes.[3] [4] The album also included a fan-tribute pop song, titled "Wanna Be (My Baby)".[5]
On September 28, 2017, YMC started releasing teasers of the repackaged edition of the anthology, titled ane-1=0 (Nothing Without You).[6] The repackage serves as a prequel to their kickoff anthology. In contrast to the energetic and passionate side of the group shown in their beginning release, Cypher Without You lot would showcase the members' anticipation almost an uncertain future as well as aspiration they had as trainees just months earlier and "hopes for cute days ahead".[vii] It was released on November xiii, 2017, with four new tracks: the lead unmarried "Beautiful", "Wanna", a funky EDM ballad, "Twilight", a bubbly trip the light fantastic rail and "Nada Without You", the album's harmony-laden intro.[viii] [9]
Promotion [edit]
Prior to their debut, the group began promotions through their reality prove Wanna Ane Go, which premiered on Baronial 7, 2017, on the cablevision channel Mnet.[10] During the first episode of Wanna One Go!, information technology was revealed that "Energetic" won the public vote and will become the title track of the anthology.[xi]
Wanna One held their debut showcase and a small concert on August 7 at Gocheok Sky Dome, which opened to 20,000 attendees.[12] [13] The group had their offset music show performance on Mnet's 1000! Countdown on August x, 2017.[14] They won their first music trophy on MBC Music's Testify! Champion on August 16.[15] The group wrapped upward promotions with the August 30 airing of Prove! Champion, with xv music show trophies for "Energetic".[16]
The second season of Wanna One Go!, titled Wanna I Go: Zero Base, aired its first episode on November iii, 2017, prior to the group's repackage release.[17] Wanna I held a comeback show for their repackaged album, which was broadcast alive on Mnet and tvN on November 13. Information technology showcases the grouping'southward performances of their new songs also as the stories backside the creation of the new anthology.[18] Their first improvement stage took place on November 17 on KBS' Music Banking company.[xix] The group received their starting time win for "Beautiful" on MBC Music'due south Testify Champion on November 22.[20]

The album reached 600,000 preorder copies prior to its release, making information technology the debut M-pop anthology with the highest number of pre-orders.[21]
To Be One debuted at No. three on Billboard'southward World Albums chart and earned offset-place rankings on iTunes Top Albums chart in eleven countries.[22] [23] It topped Gaon'south Monthly Album nautical chart for the month of August, selling over 704,000 copies.[24] Every bit of October 2017, it has sold 733,000 copies.
The championship vocal, "Energetic" topped six online music charts of six major music sites: Melon, Genie, Bugs, Mnet, Naver and Soribada; and achieved a real-time "all-impale" condition.[25] The other album tracks besides secured spots within the Pinnacle 10 positions.[26]
1-1=0 (Nothing Without Y'all) [edit]
On October thirty, 2017, YMC appear that the number of preorders for the repackaged album has reached more than than 500,000 copies. With the combined sales of their first album and its repackaged edition, Wanna 1 became just the tertiary Korean grouping to sell a one thousand thousand copies of their debut album, and the first since Seo Taiji and Boys did so with their eponymous debut in 1992.[27] [28] [29]
The title track, "Beautiful" charted atop on existent-time charts of half dozen music sites: Melon, Genie, Bugs, Mnet, Naver, and Soribada upon its release. In addition, three other new tracks of the anthology placed in the peak 10 of all six charts.[xxx]
